I spied my first Luna Moth this year while doing a last round and watering this evening. I was hoping to get a bit more done in the garden today, but something is better than nothing.

Pondering a notion on natives and non.
So the property already had some non native plants mixed in with the “locals” here before we bought it, and I have since added some as well through both blissful ignorance and two deliberately foreknown sentimental based acquisitions. While making tea tonight, I had an idea…what if I made labels for all the plants in the front yard designating which is which? Continue reading “Pondering a notion on natives and non.”
Garden Growth–May 29, 2020
Mostly been spring cleaning in the garden the last few days and there is still so much to do. At least today I got some seeds in the ground! I will start soaking more tonight.
Weekly Site Changes: May 22-28, 2020
Another week, another report. Since I started prepping the next week’s draft once the current week goes up, that really seems to help keep the ball rolling. *cringes at tempting fate after writing that*
- Updated 2020 Plantings Page as needed.
- Also realized I asked folks to add comments or queries on the 2020 Planting Page, but had neglected to turn on comments for that Page. Fixed that.
- Updated “what I’m planting soon” widget as things progressed.
- Added prior unposted Office Window Views for: May 23, 2018, July 22, 2018, June 1, 2019, June 22, 2019.
- Found a handful of blank dated templates for daily garden journaling, but only one had anything actually written besides the date, Garden Growth–19th May, 2019.

Hidden Treasure!
The garage bed is one we have not yet cleared in its entirety. This is partly due to the copious amounts of tiny thorned berry creepers as well as the fact that some time in the past someone put landscape cloth over the entire thing which of course is now broken down into plastic fiber-y bits and a pain to get out given all the plants that have pushed through over time.
Today I finally remembered to cut back the old growth on the red raspberries on the southern end, and while doing that I started clearing around the nearby daylily as well…and then I found a hidden treasure.
Thankful for gnats.
The gnats were suddenly back yesterday, and it made me a bit sad and glad which I’m sure a lot of folks will think the latter is a bit daft. So allow me to explain.
A neighbor of ours, Louise, had explained to me last year about how here they were black flies and they tend to show up after Mother’s Day and are typically gone by Father’s Day. Continue reading “Thankful for gnats.”

Not as productive a day as I had hoped, but productive nonetheless! Continue reading “Garden Growth–May 24, 2020”
