I have a few balls I’ve dropped, most of which I haven’t talked about much here. This week I hope to go back over my still in draft form posts and finishing up those before it gets too close to fall. Continue reading “August passed, and now September progress, 2018”

Critters Page incoming…
I will be adding a critters page within a week that will list out various critters I’ve seen here, with images when I have them. It will also have a sub page for monarchs with some dead basic links to sites that folks can follow to learn more about them. Over the very long term, I hope to add more sub pages for further info on the critters here. Continue reading “Critters Page incoming…”
Crazy week, and I forgot to mention…
This first bit I might have mentioned and forgot I did. My mister was insistent on transplanting the grapes despite my explaining more than once why August is a terrible time for such. (Yes, they’re not doing well. Why do you ask?) Continue reading “Crazy week, and I forgot to mention…”
Cleaning out/Setting up the monarch keeper, Part 2
Welcome back to today’s installment of how I’m making my monarch keeper. Here’s all the bits I didn’t write up yesterday, along with info and images about materials and the process. Continue reading “Cleaning out/Setting up the monarch keeper, Part 2”
Cleaning out the monarch keeper
I had started setting up the tank on Sunday, but quickly realized when I found the old crickets inside that it was in fact used as a reptile tank at one point. That changed my plan of action slightly, as it still had some sand in the base and now the cleaning would need to be more thorough just in case anything lingered from the former residents. Then my cat got sick, and suffice it to say I forgot about the cleaning though I still kept an eye on the monarchs. Continue reading “Cleaning out the monarch keeper”
Gardening in the rain
This week has proven to be one where the showers are actually happening as predicted, unlike the last time rain was forecast nonstop and then kept forgetting to actually visit. Continue reading “Gardening in the rain”
Rainy day, transplanted the pumpkin and corn seedlings
I hadn’t even given a thought as to whether some kitchen garden plants might suffer from being started indoors. Then I found a list that went into some examples of what is ok, what isn’t ideal, and what not to start indoors. As I scanned the list, then I started worrying about the corn in particular.

Indoor pot followup – 23rd July 2018
The two seedlings have grown a bit more, and we’re thinking to give them a few more days before we transplant them. It might be faulty thinking, but after the yard party yesterday, I’d rather give them a bit more time to grow indoors so they don’t become victims of the critters. Continue reading “Indoor pot followup – 23rd July 2018”
The verdict is in…
I stopped to pick some berries for my walk to the library today. My neighbor happened to be outside. I showed her the berries I’ve been trying to ID, and she thought they were likely boysenberries given what had been here prior. I offered one to her to taste, and she confirmed her thinking.
