Today was a disappointing day on many fronts. I’d been fighting a bit of a reaction to I don’t know what the last few days, and was ill enough from it that I did not make it to the Earth Day clean up. Should be obvious, but should be said: I also got diddly done around the yard. Continue reading “Garden Growth–27th April, 2019”

Garden Growth–21st April, 2019
We did manage to get some work done between rains. I’m keenly aware how much still needs doing within a month’s time. Again, higher temperatures than predicted, broke into the low 60s F. Looking ahead on the local forecasts, very few nights will hit below low 40s if they prove true. Continue reading “Garden Growth–21st April, 2019”
Garden Growth–20th April, 2019
The rains did come in various waves, and the rain barrel filled completely, so it was easy to fill one jug between the rains. Temperatures hit higher than expected to just above 70°F. Did more inside than out today. Continue reading “Garden Growth–20th April, 2019”

Cilantro: “We don’t want to go on the compost. We feel fine!”
While doing dishes, I noticed a bit of green inside one of the mini mason jar greenhouses. Sure enough, at least one of the herbs was making it know that they were not, in fact, dead. Continue reading “Cilantro: “We don’t want to go on the compost. We feel fine!””
Herb kit pots update
So it’s the 21st (when the herb kit packets said I’d see some sign of life), and no sign of green in any of the herb pots–not even the basil which I had put some plastic over loosely two days ago as I read somewhere they really like to be warm. Continue reading “Herb kit pots update”
I moved the herb kit pots.
The spot on top of the microwave seemed to be in too indirect light to be of much use to the herbs. Continue reading “I moved the herb kit pots.”
Hockey puck soil.
The herb kit I mentioned came with what looked to me like hockey pucks made from soil. The directions to return them to a less dry and condensed state seemed straightforward enough, until it didn’t work as described. Continue reading “Hockey puck soil.”
