The rains did come in various waves, and the rain barrel filled completely, so it was easy to fill one jug between the rains. Temperatures hit higher than expected to just above 70°F. Did more inside than out today. Continue reading “Garden Growth–20th April, 2019”

Garden Growth–18th April, 2019
We didn’t get as much rain as early as I expected, which worked out because that gave us time to set up one of the rain barrels. The air was still damp, which added a chill to the near 50°F temperatures. Continue reading “Garden Growth–18th April, 2019”
Rain barrel related projects
I am almost out of the water we stored in reused gallon jugs last year when we emptied our rain barrel for the season. Since I don’t want to start using tap water if I can help it, naturally I’ve been wondering when we put it out last year, and it was indeed in April, though I didn’t actually get it set up until the 25th. This is our third year collecting rainwater to use on plantings. Continue reading “Rain barrel related projects”
18th June Plantings and general Garden update
I further updated the 2018 Plantings list, adding some more details.
I planted more flower seeds today in pots indoors, as well as a few more fairytale pumpkin and pencil cob corn indoors just in case the ones that aren’t coming up yet were Acorn Bomber snacks. Continue reading “18th June Plantings and general Garden update”
Paid for the second rain barrel today
Here you pay for a rain barrel in one place (City Hall), and then pick up in another (transfer station). The pick up place isn’t open as many days of the week as the pay place.
But it’s paid for, and that’s one less thing on the check box.
Speaking of regrading…
That is one of the reasons I have been so antsy now about the weather. The more spring showers we get, the more I realize what regrading I did manage to get to last year did help. At the same time, I want to finish what I started in other areas.
As can happen, although I had a clear plan in mind about how I would go about the regrade process, sometimes there’s that one thought or question in the back of your mind that just won’t die until it gets satisfied.
Rain barrel(s) mini update
I’m sneaking this in and fudging the post date because I meant to write it (yesterday), but I’m really writing it now because I got caught up in something and realized too late it was past midnight. Continue reading “Rain barrel(s) mini update”
Time to get the rain barrel out.
I checked the weather a bit ago, and night time temps will be roughly 10°F +/- above freezing the rest of the week. We have rain on the way starting tonight, but gentle winds, so today I’ll haul out our rain barrel from the cellar, and get it in place so it can take in some water before the winds pick up a wee bit tomorrow. Continue reading “Time to get the rain barrel out.”
