Transfer seedlings: too dried out or too much handling?
In my head, I know it’s one thing to have what you need on hand and at least in an easy to grab place. It’s another thing to go a step further and do as much as you can within reason before starting something. Somehow, such foreknowledge slipped through the sieve of my brain and now I’m trying to salvage some transplants as a result.

Time to write just about anything in a focused manner lately has been hard to come by, so here’s a sort of organized bullet list both for me and anyone that is curious about what I’ve been up to in the last few days.
Cilantro: “We don’t want to go on the compost. We feel fine!”

Herb kit pots update
So it’s the 21st (when the herb kit packets said I’d see some sign of life), and no sign of green in any of the herb pots–not even the basil which I had put some plastic over loosely two days ago as I read somewhere they really like to be warm. Continue reading “Herb kit pots update”

What’s taters, precious?
One of the potatoes that ended up in our kitchen decided it wanted to be more than just part of an immediate meal on the table. So instead of cutting out the numerous eyes, I let them be and gave it a home. Continue reading “What’s taters, precious?”
Hockey puck soil.
The herb kit I mentioned came with what looked to me like hockey pucks made from soil. The directions to return them to a less dry and condensed state seemed straightforward enough, until it didn’t work as described. Continue reading “Hockey puck soil.”
